Drifting is tons and tons of fun. Spinning those car rims and making clouds of smoke with your tires as you go sideways in a relatively controlled slide gets the adrenaline pumping and puts a wide smile on anyone’s face.
And while rear wheel drive sports cars can do this dirty deed right out of the box, it’s even more fun when you add some power to the rear car rims. That’s why this BMW 1M Coupe with a BMW V-10 hiding under its hood is so freaking awesome.
Instead of the turbocharged inline-six, someone had the crazy idea to stuff a 5.0-liter S85 V-10 into the engine bay to drive the rear car rims. The BMW S85 isn’t your average V-10 either. The 5.0-liter engine born from BMW’s former involvement in Formula 1 and loves to rev. In stock form, it produces 500 horsepower and 384 lb-ft. of torque. It was only used in the BMW M5 from 2005 to 2010, and earned quite a reputation for its power, characteristics, and exotic exhaust note.
Here, the S85 is making closer to 550 horsepower for the rear car rims to enjoy thanks to a few modifications. And what better way to show it off than by drifting a race track and making some serious clouds out of those tires!
