Taking off-road performance to the next level.

The annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas is all about automakers and aftermarket companies showing off their latest and greatest, and the 2017 show was no different. This time around, Chevrolet teamed up with AEV to create the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 AEV concept with bigger tires and rims, snorkel, new bodywork, and lots more.

“Colorado has reignited the midsize segment with class-exclusive features and performance,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president, Truck Strategy, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Some customers want even greater capability, and the ZR2 AEV concept and ZR2 Race Development Truck showcase the efforts we’ve made to explore how owners can get even more from their trucks.”

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 AEV concept features the potent 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine and is made for overland travel. The concept features a Chevrolet Performance Suspension that gives the new tires and rims more capability. There’s new front and rear jounce shocks, plunging front half-shafts, high-angle upper ball joints, and stiffer high-angle tie rods with a long-travel rear leaf spring setup and specially-tuned Multimatic DSSV shocks.

“ZR2 puts an exclamation point on Chevy’s off-road engineering ability,” said AEV founder Dave Harriton. “Our collaboration taught us that Colorado makes a great platform for building an off-road truck that can take you as far out as you want to go, safely.”

For the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 AEV concept, a full set of off-road bumpers were installed along with underbody skid plates, an expedition bed rack, and higher-clearance fenders. A new high-rise snorkel ensures that driving through the water won’t hydrolock the engine. New tires and rims were also fitted. For this concept, AEV DualSport beadlock wheels were installed with matching 35-inch BFGoodrich KM2 Mud Terrain tires. There’s also recovery shackes, a high-lift jack, and a warn 9.5xp-s winch for those tough off-road trails.

Inside and in the bed, drivers will benefit from a new ARB refrigerator and freezer combo, Equipt storage case, NATO-style fuel canisters, and a James Baroud USA awning.

Unfortunately, only one of these trucks will ever be made to put its tires and rims in the rugged outdoors. The featured accessories, however, will be available for Colorado ZR2 owners.
