The fastest, most powerful Corvette ever.
The Chevrolet Corvette has been America’s sports car since it began production in the 1950s. Today, that’s still the case, and it’s better than ever before thanks to the new ZR1. The latest variant of the C7-generation model is the fastest and the most powerful Corvette ever produced, with 755 horsepower going to the custom wheels while new aerodynamics create gobs of downforce.
“I’ve never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there’s never been one like this before,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back.”
At the heart of the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a 6.2-liter LT5 V-8 engine. This supercharged motor has the highest output ever for a Chevrolet production vehicle with a total of 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft. of torque being sent to the rear custom wheels. The incredible power comes thanks to a larger, more efficient intercooled supercharger system with 52-more displacement over the Z06’s LT4 engine’s supercharger. It also utilizes GM’s first dual-fuel-injection system.
That insane amount of American muscle is sent through a standard seven-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters to the rear custom wheels – making it the first time a ZR1 has been offered with an automatic gearbox. This powertrain enables the Corvette ZR1 to reach a top speed over 210 mph.
“As the highest-performing Corvette ever, the ZR1’s design supports its capability in every way,” said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. “The new wings, for example, help generate more downforce without adding drag, enhancing road holding and top speed.”
That downforce pushing down on the new custom wheels and tires of the Corvette ZR1 comes from an entirely new aero package. The standard aero package includes a Low Wing that creates up to 70-percent more downforce than the Z06 base aero package. The optional ZTK Performance Package includes an adjustable High Wing, front splitter with carbon fiber caps, and more aero. Part of the package also includes new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on the custom wheels as well as a specially-tuned Magnetic Ride Control.
Inside, the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 features leather trimmed seats as standard with optional sueded microfiber. Drivers can also get competition sport seats, heated and vented nappa leather seats, and a carbon fiber rimmed steering wheel. A Performance Data Recorder and Bose premium audio system is also available.
The new 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be available for purchase in the spring of 2018.
