Watch Colin McRae Drive the Subaru Legacy RS like it was meant to

Colin McRae Subaru Legacy RS

Classic Rally Footage.

There are great drivers and then there’s a class of legends that seemingly mastered the art of driving fast and became icons of motorsport. Colin McRae is one of them and his ability to drive the rims and tires off rally cars was second to none.

His skill with the all-wheel drive drivetrains of Subarus earned the two of them much fame as he racked up rally victories left and right in the 1990s. He later drove with Ford, Skoda, and a short stint with Citroen before his death in 2007. The Scottish driver’s ability to put his Subaru’s rims and tires through some tough conditions to victory quickly earned him many fans, especially when he took home the World Rally Championship’s driver’s title in 1995. In doing so, he became the first British person and the youngest to ever win the title.

Here, we have some classic footage of McRae driving the Subaru Legacy RS at the Tour de Corse rally in 1993. The turbocharged inline-four is an absolute beast as all four rims and tires spin and struggle for grip at the hands of McRae.

What makes the footage so cool besides the absurdity of the classic rally races was the fact that this was the car that you saw in your neighborhood driveway – albeit tuned and modified from the rims and tires on up to the turbocharged engine.

It’s a wonderful display of driving skill and vintage rally fun.
