Time for some acceleration in the dirty stuff.

There’s some SUVs that are absolute beasts right out of the gate. After rolling off the factory line, they’re ready to unleash all sorts of hell on any terrain with their truck wheels and a mean growl. The new Range Rover Sport SVR is one of them, and it’s fast no matter what kind of surface it is on.

Packed beneath the square hood of the Range Rover Sport SVR is a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine spitting out a monstrous 550 horsepower and 502 lb-ft. of torque. That’s sent through a reprogrammed transmission to all four of the beefy truck wheels. As an added bonus, the noises that are spit out of the tailpipes are out of this world.

On paper, the Range Rover Sport SVR can accelerate to 60 mph from rest in 4.5 seconds and hit a limited top speed of 162 mph. But even more impressive is its acceleration through different types of terrain whether it’s sand, mud, dirt, gravel, and snow. A range of advanced electronics works alongside some beefy drivetrain and suspension mechanical bits to make sure those off road tires and truck wheels get the most grip possible.

To show just how good the SUV is in all of these situations, Land Rover/Range Rover put the SVR through its paces starting with a baseline test on asphalt. The worst performance was in the snow, but even the 11.3-second time there is incredible given the difficulty for truck wheels to get traction in the snow and avoid slipping.

Even without that kind of performance, the SVR had us as soon as its engine fired up!
