Clean, turbodiesel power!

The Chevrolet Colorado is America’s fastest-selling truck on the market and while that notable position atop the sales ranks was acquired with gasoline engines, the new 2.8-liter Duramax Diesel option looks to propel it even further. Churning the rims and tires of the Colorado is an all-new, clean and powerful 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine that is innovative and efficient.

“Simply put, there’s no other midsize truck that can do what Colorado can with its all-new Duramax diesel,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing. “Along with greater capability and efficiency, it expands the Colorado lineup to give customers more choices and the capability of exploring more possibilities on and off the road.”

The new turbodiesel 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder engine was always in the plans for the Colorado mid-size truck since its inception. The unveiling of the new engine pushes the platform to new heights from the rims and tires to driver’s wallets.

The 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine is part of the new family of GM’s four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines that provide drivers with capability, efficiency, and value. The new 2.8-liter engine sends a total of 181 horsepower at 3,400 RPM and 369 lb-ft. (500 Nm) of torque at 2,000 RPM to either the rear or all four rims and tires. The engine also has a wide power band from low RPMs all the way up to the top, thanks to the variable-geometry turbocharger.

It is a no-compromise turbocharged engine that is also really fun to drive, with excellent responsiveness,” said Yackley. “It was also designed specifically for trucks and has undergone many of the same validation tests as the 6.6L Duramax, contributing to legendary Duramax durability and reliability.”

Whether it’s the rear rims and tires or all four being driven, the 2WD and 4WD variants of the new Chevrolet Colorado Duramax Diesel have incredible tow ratings in the segment. In 2WD form, the truck’s maximum trailering capacity is 7,700 lbs. while the 4WD models are set at 7,600 lbs. A standard Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rims and tires through a standard G80 locking rear differential and 3.42 rear axle. A special Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber (CPVA) in the torque converter makes the drivetrain smooth for occupants inside the truck.

Along with being super-efficient, the new Duramax Diesel is also the cleanest that GM has ever produced. A special cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system helps to create a fresh stream of cool air to reduce combustion temperatures and improve emissions by cutting NOx creation.

The new Chevrolet Colorado Duramax Diesel will be available this fall as an LT and Z71 Crew Cab model with 2WD or 4WD and be priced $3,730 above the 3.6-liter V-6 models.
