Get ready for a Chase with the new Ford Mustang Bullitt!

Celebrating 50 years of the iconic chase scene.

One of – if not the greatest – car chase scenes in movie history was in the movie ‘Bullitt’ starring Steve McQueen. It saw McQueen’s character in his own 1068 Ford Mustang GT Fastback chasing down two hitmen driving a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T for approximately 10 minutes. There was lots of smoke from the custom wheels spinning and sliding all through the streets of San Francisco in what would become a chase scene of epic proportions.

At the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford unveiled their new 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film. The third-generation model was driven by McQueen’s granddaughter and the original vehicle from the movie was brought out onto the stage after decades of mystery had surrounded its whereabouts.

The new special edition Ford Mustang Bullitt will be available in either Shadow Black or Dark Highland Green – the same color as the model from the movie. There’s subtle chrome accents used on the grille surround and windows the former being a sleek Black unit. There’s not a lot of badging to differentiate it either, with the lone indicator being the faux fuel cap in the center of the rear fascia with the Bullitt logo. New 19-inch torque thrust custom wheels also come standard and hide the red-painted Brembo brakes behind them.

Inside, the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt features leather-trimmed upholstery with green accent stitching throughout. There’s also a heated leather steering wheel, 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster, and a white cue ball shift knob to pay homage to the original car.

Under the hood, there’s a bit more fun to be had. The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt boasts a 5.0-liter V-8 engine from the Mustang GT model with an Open Air Induction System and Shelby GT350 intake manifold with dual 87-mm throttle bodies. A new active valve performance exhaust system with Black NitroPlate exhaust tips also comes standard. That equates to at least 475 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. of torque for the rear custom wheels to consume as it’s sent through a manual transmission. It also gives it a 163-mph top speed.

There’s only three available options for the new Mustang Bullitt from Ford. First up is a Bullitt Electronics Package for all sorts of driving amenities. Then there’s an optional MagneRide semi-active suspension that helps keep those custom wheels in constant contact with the pavement. There’s also the option for a set of RECARO black leather seats as well.

The new 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt will be available at a later date along with pricing.
