For the 2017 model year, Toyota is bringing the Tacoma back into the TRD Pro family with a new range of factory-equipped off road gear designed to satisfy the needs of serious off road enthusiasts. New Toyota Tacoma wheels, special exterior colors, upgraded suspension components, and a range of standard features set it in a league of its own.
Born from the TRD Pro Series team that took on the Baja endurance races, the new Tacoma TRD Pro is based on the Tacoma TRD off road 4×4 Double Cab Short Bed model with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox. The truck will be available in Cement, Barcelona Red, or Super White exterior paint that all contrast the black Toyota Tacoma wheels.
The new TRD Pro off road upgrades start below the beltline. New FOX 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks have been tuned by TRD. The front suspension features tuned front springs feature a 1.0-inch lift and the rear boasts progressive-rate off road leaf springs. Hitting the terrain are 16-inch Toyota Tacoma wheels dressed in black with Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Kevlar-reinforced tires.
Power comes from a 3.5-liter DOHC V-6 with direct injection Atkinson-cycle with VVT-iW intake and VVT-I exhaust. All four Toyota Tacoma wheels can be driven thanks to the part-time 4WDemand system with transfer case and automatic limited-slip differential. The Tacoma TRD Pro also comes with the CRAWL control for difficult terrain.
Visually, the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro features brawnier components such as an aluminum skid plate, black-bezeled taillights, projector beam headlights, TRD Pro badging, and Rigid Industries LED fog lights. A heritage ‘Toyota’ front grille, blacked out and colored components complete the package.
Inside, the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro comes with an array of standard features from the GoPro mount, to TRD accessories, and leather-trimmed seating and steering wheel.
The new 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will go on sale in the fall of 2016.
