Drifting is one of the most exciting and fun things to do behind the wheel of a car. The controlled spinning and sliding of the rear axle at speed provides a rush of adrenaline and loads of tire smoke. It’s exciting for the fans too, especially at the KMC Wheels Super Drift Series. At Long Beach, California, the Super Drift Series returned during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

During the Grand Prix event, Formula DRIFT played host to the KMC Wheels Super Drift Challenge that saw a range of high-powered rear-wheel drive sports cars shred tires through the course in a battle for first place. Their burnt rubber signatures were left in the pavement and smoke from their tires filled the air as each of the 16 drivers competed for the $25,000 prize purse.

The KMC Wheels Super Drift Challenge utilized turns 9, 10, and 11 of the Toyota Grand Prix street course that weave and wind through Long Beach. With fans filling the event to capacity, they watched drivers slide to the end.

In qualifying, Forrest Wang in the Get Nuts Lab / Hankook Tire Nissan S14 was able to get the number one position, however he ended the day with a third-place finish for the second consecutive year. The biggest battle was between Conrad Grunewald in the Always Evolving / Replay Camera Chevrolet Camaro and Robbie Nishida in the Achilles Motorsport / Bridges Racing Lexus SC300 for the final. The skilled hands of Grunewald were able to take first place in the KMC Wheels Super Drift Challenge and win the $25,000 prize.
