For years, the RAM truck brand has been looking for an opportunity to get back into the off roading game, and finally it presented itself as of late. It has resulted in the creation of the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel that packs everything you’ll need to tackle any kind of terrain such as a unique air lift suspension, special off road rims and tires, and tailored suspension.
“Offering an off-road-style package on the Ram 1500 has been on our to-do list for some time but the right combination didn’t present itself until now,” said Bob Hegbloom, President and CEO — Ram Truck Brand, FCA US LLC. “The Rebel drops right into a core segment of the truck market with unique design cues and can-do attitude backed by Ram Truck engineering.”
The exterior of the Ram 1500 Rebel is more aggressive and bold compared to the standard Ram 1500 model. An all-new blacked-out grille with large billet silver “RAM” lettering stares ahead and is incorporated into the new front bumper with tow hooks, LED fog lamps, and powder coated billet silver skid plate. An aluminum twin-snorkel sport hood sits atop to provide ventilation for the engine bay. Large Power Wagon wheel arch mouldings and flat black badges, mirrors, and lower panels add to the two-tone scheme. Underneath those large mouldings are 17-inch off road rims and tires that feature a one-piece construction with matte black accent pockets and multi-angled surfaces for an all-terrain look.
At the rear, a very conspicuous ‘RAM’ blacked out stamping sits on the tailgate while black powder coating sits on the bumper as dual chrome-tipped exhaust protrude. Each of the rear taillights also wear black surrounds.
Where the new 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel really shines is in the chassis and suspension. Here, the ride height was raised a full inch for better clearance for the beefed up off road rims and tires. The front and rear shocks come from Bilstein and have been tuned with the new steering wheel calibration for the increased ride height. At the rear, a softer stabilizer helps to improve all terrain dynamics. The new off road rims and tires for the Ram 1500 Rebel are the 17-inch cast aluminum units previously mentioned with 33-inch Toyo Open Country A/T all-terrain tires measuring LT285/70R12E that offer good handling and grip on- or off-road. Paired up with the new air suspension, a total of 10.3 inches of ground clearance is achieved.
The new Ram 1500 Rebel will be available with either the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and 3.92 gear ratio for better leverage, or the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine in 4 x 4 or 4 x 2 configurations. The newest vehicle will be available for purchase in the second-half of 2015.
