Pure American muscle.
Earlier, Cadillac announced its new 2016 CTS-V. The second in the next-generation Cadillac V-Series comes after the debut of the smaller ATS-V Coupe and Sedan that brought quite a bit of power and refinement to its class. Now, the CTS-V is finally going on sale at dealerships around the United States. Armed with 640 horsepower, a luxurious interior, custom wheels, and all sorts of high-performance aspects, the new CTS-V is taking it to the higher-priced Germans with ease.
“V-Series represents the pinnacle of Cadillac, a brand that now makes drivers’ cars at the highest level,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president. “The new CTS-V is essentially two cars in one: a luxury sedan with sophisticated road manners and a track-capable sports car with awe-inspiring performance. This type of car is exclusive, the domain of the few who can access this level of incredible capability. V-Series matches or overtakes the finest cars in this elite class, while being more accessible.”
The new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is the most powerful model that the brand has ever made in its 112-year history. The force behind it is a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes a whopping 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft. of torque – more than the twin-turbocharged units in from Mercedes-Benz and BMW. All that power is sent through an eight-speed performance-tuned automatic gearbox to each of the rear custom wheels. The gearbox can be automatically operated or drivers can manually shift gears through steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
But that’s only part of the story. The new Cadillac CTS-V has quite the performance-oriented armament hiding in plain sight. Atop the supercharged V-8 sits a carbon fiber hood that reduces lift and helps keep things cool. New custom wheels measure 19-inches in diameter and are shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sports tires for never-ending grip. Brembo brakes bring the super sedan to a halt with ease. Ensuring that the custom wheels are always making proper contact with the asphalt is the third-generation Magnetic Ride Control that instantly reacts to changes in the road and adjusts according to the three driver-selectable modes.
The new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is currently available for order from dealerships starting at $83,995.
