Rolling in on a fresh set of custom wheels!
Chevrolet loves to stuff their big, naturally-aspirated V-8 motors into vehicles, and now their full-size Suburban is getting a new engine, gearbox, styling goodies, custom wheels, and more in the new RST Performance Package.
“The RST Performance Package made its debut on the Tahoe RST last spring, and the response from our customers was overwhelmingly positive,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevy Trucks Marketing and Advertising. “In fact, Tahoe RST with the Performance Package is the fastest-turning Tahoe model, and we’ve received customer requests to offer the same performance and power to Suburban RST. Delivering on those requests with the Suburban RST Performance Package is another example of how Chevrolet has continually invested in the segment, developing models with combinations of capability, technology and performance to meet the needs of different customers.”
The new Chevrolet Suburban RST Package gains a 6.2-liter V-8 engine for the first time ever. The high-tech engine boasts direct injection, Active Fuel Management, and continuously variable valve timing for better power and efficiency. In total, the new motor produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque for the custom wheels to eat up on the pavement and give the driver a kick in the pants.
The new 6.2-liter V-8 is also mated to a new 10-speed automatic gearbox. Here, Chevrolet has smaller steps between gear ratios for better overall acceleration. At highways speeds, engine revs are low thanks to the wide 7.39 overall ratio.
Magnetic Ride Control also comes standard in the new Chevrolet Suburban RST Performance Package. This suspension system analyzes the road every millisecond and makes changes to the damping in a few as five milliseconds based on the driving mode. This improves responsiveness without sacrificing ride quality and comfort.
“When you want to hustle, the Suburban RST with the Performance Package offers high levels of acceleration, braking and road-holding grip,” said Eric Stanczak, chief engineer for Chevrolet full-size trucks. “When you want to relax, it is very refined, with exceptional ride comfort and interior quietness.”
The Chevrolet Suburban RST Performance Package will come with new visual upgrades that differentiate it and reflect its performance abilities. New body-colored door handles and a grille surround pair with the Gloss Black grille and mirror caps while Black roof rails, window trim, badges, and Chevrolet bowties complete the package. Beneath the body sits new 22 inch custom wheels wrapped in 285/45 R2 Bridgestone tires. There’s also an optional Performance Dual-Side Exit exhaust system designed by Borla that improves exhaust flow by 28-percent. Customers can also opt for new red-painted Brembo six-piston brake calipers and larger 410 x 32 mm Duralife rotors for better stopping power.
The new Chevrolet Suburban RST Performance Package will be available late in the summer of 2018 with official performance and pricing released closer to the sale date.
