Motorsports provide the best proving grounds, test beds, and research facilities. Motegi Wheels have used racing and motorsports to their advantage throughout their history to create some of the best products on the market and continue to refine and innovate year after year. Last year provided to be very successful for the wheel company with championship wins in the World Endurance Championship (GTE Pro), European Le Mans Series (GTE), and Grand-Am GT (GT).

Now they’re coming back to the legendary Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona after improving upon and developing their products even further in the offseason. The 2014 version of their famous Technomesh GT wheel is 2.2 lbs. lighter than the previous version, resulting in a static mass savings of eight pounds or greater.

“A racing wheel is always a compromise between weight and stiffness,” said Luigi Lucaora, technical director for Motegi Racing’s competition program. “Our philosophy is to listen to what our racing partners want, and work with them to develop products that exceed their expectations.”

A number of teams and their vehicles will be using Motegi Wheels during the endurance race. Longtime technical partner, AF Corse under the “Spirit of Racing” name, the factory SRT Viper teams, and Mazda SkyActiv-D Prototypes will all be wearing Motegi Technomesh wheels at Daytona.

In the GTLM class, the SRT Vipers will be sporting the Technomesh “Evo 14” – the 2014 variant of the Technomesh wheel. The Viper GT3-R in the GTD class will be using one of the new Motegi Wheels models developed to reach a minimum allowed weight under IMSA rules and regulations.

Racing with the Prototype class will be the Mazda Skyactiv-D Prototypes with a 2014 Technomesh wheel that meets IMSA and ACO regulations.

The Motegi Wheels technical partners, Spirit of Racing – AF Corse and their two Ferrari 458 Italia cars will wear the company’s wheels along with the three Ferrari 458 Italias of the Grand Am GT champion team.

Motegi Wheels will also be worn by the German racers with the Porsche GT America team using a custom-built Technomesh wheel with the lowest possible weight under IMSA regulations. Alex Job Racing and their two cars along with two cars from brand ambassadors, Dempsey Racing will wear Motegi Wheels.

The 52nd Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona is the start of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series season. The race will begin at 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 25th and come to an end after 24 hours and 2,500 miles.
