Let’s blow up some Tires and Wheels with Air Pressure!

Exploding Rims and Tires

Watch the fun.

It’s not often that you get to do some destructive experiments with old tires and wheels sitting around. But, when you do, there is a lot of fun to be had. Just ask this guy and his friends that tried a little air pressure experiment with some old equipment.

After finding a few old tires and wheels that were cracked, hard, rusted, and just deteriorated, the crew decided to see how much air pressure they could handle. They thought that it wouldn’t take much for these old unusable rims and tires to burst due to their horrible condition.

Exploding Rims and Tires

Well, it didn’t go according to plan. The rubber didn’t explode even after maxing out their air compressor while attempting the feat in their backyard. So, they decided to bring out the big guns for the job. They took the pack of tires and wheels out into the woods and grabbed a carbon dioxide tank with 360 psi packed inside and decided to let it loose.

After hooking everything up and putting in some serious pressure (approx. 220 psi), the tires and wheels exploded open. The first ruptured around the edge of the sidewall near the tread with the second tire following suit.

So, although those beat up old tires are not safe to drive on and use, they can still likely handle quite a bit of air pressure. Just don’t try this at home!
