Don’t do this to your Tires and Rims in the Snow!

Those Crazy Russians.

Those Crazy Russians.

Oh what a joy it would be to live in Russia. You just drink vodka all day and go about your business whatever that may be from working to making your own set of custom tires and rims for the snow and ice in your garage with friends.

This here Russian has been doing some pretty outlandish and crazy things when it comes to cars. He’s put Coca Cola in an engine crankcase and run it and also installed wooden pistons. This time around, he’s making his own studded tires and rims to test out in the local ice race track.

Now, we really, really don’t recommending making your own studded snow tires and rims at home due to safety, but this is insanely awesome. This Russian bought thousands of self-tapping screws and took an old set of tires, and screwed them into the rubber from the inside out.

After installing the screws, his team threw down a layer of duct tape to help prevent air from escaping and prevent the screws from pushing into the rubber. They then installed a new tube inside then mounted the rubber and voila!

After mounting the new homemade studded snow tires and rims on a beat up, old wagon, he took to the ice track. The results were pretty impressive as the tires provided endless amounts of grip in the snow and ice. He was also able to drag race a Mercedes-Benz and easily beat it on the ice.

So, while this looks like a pretty good idea, we really don’t recommend doing it at home.
