A nice set of German wheels on a classic Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen GTI may be one of the most popular performance-oriented Golf variants, but for quite some time, the R32 ruled the roost as the best version of the Golf available to the public. The formula was relatively simple although some of its technology was rather complex. Regardless, it quickly became a favorite of Volkswagen enthusiasts during its production run and this 2004 Volkswagen R32 with BBS wheels in Reflex Silver is evidence of that.
The 2004 Volkswagen R32 didn’t have the same 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine or the 2.8-liter VR6 found in the GTIs. Instead, driving all four of these BBS CK wheels is a 3.2-liter VR6 engine that churns out a healthy 237 horsepower and 240 lb-ft. of torque along with one of the best six-cylinder exhaust notes in the industry. In this 2004 Volkswagen R32, a new APR ECU software reflash along with a Southbend high-performance clutch help to put even more power to each of the BBS wheels, reliably.
Further differentiating the R32 from the rest of the Volkswagen Golf model lineup is the fact that it uses an all-wheel drive system. Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system can be paired up with either a six-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch DSG transmission. The DSG-equipped models were the first of their kind offered in a production model in the world. In this case, the former is the choice.
This Reflex Silver R32 may be distinguishable by its more aggressive body work and unique design compared to other GTI models, but its new BBS wheels help to make it even more appealing, visually. The BBS CK wheels were installed in an 18-inch diameter with a silver finish to complement the Reflex Silver exterior color of the hot hatch. Behind the rims sit a set of slotted and cross-drilled brake rotors that help to reduce heat better than standard brakes. A new Yarrowsport upper rear strut mount helps to sharpen up handling and driving dynamics more as well.
The Volkswagen R32 may not be the fastest in the segment or the best handling but its glorious exhaust note and hot hatch formula have made it a cult favorite, especially among the Volkswagen crowd. This R32 with BBS wheels is surely a favorite as well for sticking to its German roots.
