The Dodge Viper used to be a race car that you had to watch out for on the track. It was quick and nimble and loved to take home the checkered flag. The Viper captured numerous championships and victories in important endurance races like the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona and 24 Hours of Le Mans along with American Le Mans Series championship titles. It was a car that the competition dreaded in the late 1990s and early 2000s. With the latest generation Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R models competing in the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the team thought that the cars and their Motegi wheels should wear some classic livery.
At the upcoming Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen starting June 27th, the No.91 and No. 93 Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R models and their Motegi wheels will both be wearing new red and white livery that was designed after the successful Viper teams that won years before.
“We are honoring the racing history of the Dodge Viper by returning to its classic colors as we are in the midst of celebrating the Dodge brand’s 100th anniversary and 100 years of American performance,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of SRT Motorsports and Senior Vice President of Product Design for Chrysler Group LLC. “The new livery not only brings back this classic look but also enables us to continue to connect our Viper racing program to its spirited racing heritage.”
The new SRT Motorsports Vipers will each wear the same ’Viper Red’ base coat of paint with two vibrant ‘Race White’ stripes running from the bottom of the front bumper all the way to the rear. The two stripes travel across the hood, roof, trunk lid, and rear spoiler wing of both cars. The number designations, sponsors including the Motegi wheels logo, and more will all be shown in white along each side of the race cars. The respective numbers will also be placed atop the passenger-side of the engine hood as well as across the roof.
The new SRT Motorsports Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R race cars with their lightweight Motegi wheels will make their official debut on June 27th at Watkins Glen for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen race weekend. The green flag will drop for the race on Sunday, June 29th, at 11:15 AM EDT. Both cars will look to use their classic livery as a morale boost to take the checkered flag. The race is the third in the 2014 IMSA TUDOR season and part of the North American Endurance Cup (NAEC).
