MOPAR muscle car madness.
History and nostalgia plays a huge role in the muscle car world of today. The classic rear-wheel drive V-8 sports cars of decades past have carved out a very popular piece of the automotive pie that still holds true today. Dodge is recalling some of its heritage with the new Plum Crazy paint color for the Challenger and Charger models that will have MOPAR addicts so happy, they’ll be spinning their rims and tires into smoke.
“Powerful muscle cars painted in impactful colors make Woodward Dream Cruise the perfect setting for Dodge to debut the newest generation Challenger and Charger models in Plum Crazy,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and Chief Executive Officer – Dodge Brand and SRT Brand, FCA – North America. “And with our strongest muscle-car arsenal ever, we knew it was time to reach into our Dodge paint code archive and offer our high-performance R/T Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat models in one of the most iconic exterior colors of all time.”
Since 1970, Plum Crazy has been worn by the Dodge Challenger and Charger as they roasted their rims and tires in clouds of smoke with gasoline costing a tiny fraction of what it does today. Both gas prices and power outputs have risen in the decades since, and Dodge is bringing back the special hue on various Challenger and Charger models for enthusiasts.
“From the aggressive and in-your-face styling of the SRT Hellcat models, the reverberating black stripes on our Shaker models, to the nostalgic dual A-line side stripes in satin black or gloss white on the R/T Classic model – Plum Crazy further builds on Dodge brand’s muscle-car roots and adds to Challenger and Charger’s vibrant legacy,” said Mark Trostle, Head of Dodge and SRT Design, FCA US LLC.
The big, bad 707-horsepower, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with its ability to shred rims and tires will be available with the Plum Crazy color along with the Challenger SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Classic, R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker, R/T Scat Pack, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, and SRT 392 models. The four-door, Charger sibling will have the color option available on the R/T, R/T Road & Track, R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat variants. SXT models with the 20-inch rims and tires will also have the Plum Crazy option.
Dodge has also released the paint and model production numbers to verify the collectability of their Dodge Charger and Challenger models with high-impact hues.
