Coming to the Verizon IndyCar Series Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

Prior of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, accomplished young adult fiction author, John Green, will be making his rounds at the Verizon IndyCar Series Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis in a Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car with chrome wheels.

Green, an Indiana native, has earned numerous awards and achievements with his literary work. In 2006, he won the Printz Award for best book written for young adults with his debut novel, Looking for Alaska. His sixth novel, The Fault in Our Stars debuted at the top spot on the New York Times Best Seller List in 2012 and the film adaptation opened on the silver screen at No. 1 in 2014. Now, he’s setting his sights on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a shiny new Corvette and chrome wheels.

“This is such an honor to be chosen to drive the pace car at one of the most iconic race tracks in the world – which just happens to be in my backyard,” said Green. “I’m looking forward to driving on the same track as so many of the greatest drivers in the world.”

The 2016 Torch Red Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe features a Z51 Performance Package, chrome wheels, and an LT1 V-8 engine making 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque. The Coupe can reach 60 mph from rest in just 3.7 seconds with the eight-speed automatic transmission or 3.8 seconds with the manual gearbox. The quarter-mile disappears in 12 seconds at 119 mph while stopping from 60 mph occurs after just 107 feet.

While this Torch Red beauty with chrome wheels looks like a street car, it’s more than capable of performing pace car duties without any upgrades. The only modifications made were the installation of a light bar and fire extinguisher for safety.

“John is a huge IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway fan and we have been looking for the right opportunity to get him involved in one of the events,” said J. Douglas Boles, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “Having him drive the Chevrolet pace car for the Angie’s list Grand Prix of Indianapolis is a great way for him to be part of this historic month.”
