Saying ‘goodbye’ to the box.
Scion is a relatively young automotive brand that has been trying to connect with younger drivers. Their xB model was one of the “hip” boxy models that was an iconic vehicle for the brand. Now, the xB is coming to an end and to celebrate its run, Scion has partnered with the snowboard company, 686 to create a special edition with black wheels, custom interior, and other upgrades.
“The xB has been part of Scion from the very beginning and we wanted to give it a meaningful send-off,” said Scion Vice President Andrew Gilleland. “What better way to do that than to partner with 686, which caters to people who live their lives to the fullest? Whether it’s used on the streets or the slopes, this xB will become a classic.”
The new Scion xB 686 Parklan Edition wears a special Cocoa Bean Metallic paint with red lines highlighting certain parts of the front fascia, side mirrors, and rear, similar to the red stripes used by 686. Even the center caps of the new black wheels feature the red color.
The boxy model is also stylish. The Scion xB 686 Parklan Edition features a set of 16-inch alloy black wheels with stamped logo. Blacked-out badges, black side mirrors, rear license plate garnish, and black door handles all provide contrast to the dark metallic paint.
“Before we designed this car, we took an xB on a three-week road trip from California to Boston and we captured the action in our movie, 686 Seconds,” said Brent Sandor, 686 Director of Marketing. “By taking the car from the city to the mountains and back again, we learned the xB can handle adverse conditions inside and out. With a cargo box on top and all-weather floor and cargo mats on the inside, it was the perfect inspiration for our special edition collaboration.”
The unique design theme also runs into the cabin as well. The Scion xB 686 Parklan Edition sports a discreet zipper storage pocket on the driver’s side of the cockpit while the seat backs are also zippered for extra storage. New all-weather floor and cargo mats ensure the interior does not get dirty after a long day on the slopes. A special INNO Cargo Box and Roof Rack setup are also available to customers as an option.
While this signals the end to the Scion xB, the special edition model with its custom paint, black wheels, and unique interior upgrades pay homage to the car’s run. The Scion xB 686 Parklan Edition will retail for $19.685 and be limited to just 686 units.
