Will Construction Foam in Car Wheels Be Better than Air?

Construction Foam in Tires

Let’s find out!

We’ve all wondered odd things about vehicles and if certain things can be done while in a pinch. Using lighter fluid to mount tires on car wheels is one of those things that was discovered as being possible. The team at Garage 54 is back to see if the same rules apply to filling tires with construction foam.

The whole idea of using construction foam in car wheels came from another YouTube channel where it was tried. So the Garage 54 team decided to contact them and try a different experiment by using different types of punctures in the tire to fill with construction foam in an effort to see which the best was.

One tire had four squares cut into its sidewall, another was filled through the valve stem and punctured to allow air to escape, another was drilled into in four spots, and the last of the car wheels was slashed and filled.

After the tires were filled, the foam expanded, and five days passed to let the foam harden, the car wheels were mounted on a Lada that had previously been secured shut with construction foam.

Right off the bat, the tires began to look very deflated due to the lack of air pressure and the low strength of the foam. After a short drive, the tires were flat and the foam had been compacted while losing its strength.

In the end, the Garage 54 team found that construction foam will not work when used in a pinch to fill tires instead of air.

So, don’t do it.
