Well, that doesn’t look good.
Believe it or not, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is designed to be an off-road machine. From its beefy truck wheels to its strong suspension and traditional four-wheel drive system, it’s made to handle mud, dirt, water, and everything in between.
And while that may be the case, it doesn’t mean that it can perform insane stunts over any type of terrain without proper driving and skills. Even the high-performance Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG with its truck wheels isn’t immune to breaking down because of driver error.
Just take this G63 AMG in Ukraine for example. At an off-roading event, the mighty SUV was tasked with speeding through muddy and often unpassable obstacles. The 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that sends 537 horsepower and 561 lb-ft. of torque to all four truck wheels was just no match for the bad driving and hazards that the SUV was not designed to overcome, especially those in deep water.
Many of the paths and obstacles on land were easy for the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG to tackle. Its truck wheels got loads of grip and passing through was no problem. But the water hazards where the driver improperly entered and tried to exit were just too much for the factory SUV.
In the end, the engine bay became filled with smoke from the water and being overworked. After popping the hood, a huge cloud filled the air and steam continued to fly upwards.
