A classic with a modern twist.

The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most iconic vehicles ever produced. The German “people’s car” could be found all over the globe and was simple, slow, and stylish. Even today, these cars are collectable and the “New Beetle” models are still popular. But this old-school Beetle with its custom wheels built by Chuckles Garage has the heart of a modern-day Audi.

This isn’t just your basic rear-engined classic Volkswagen Beetle. Instead of the factory air-cooled engines that barely pushed 60 horsepower, there’s a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four from an Audi that’s powering the rear custom wheels.

The 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine has a following of its own thanks to its ability to be tuned relatively easily. In this Volkswagen Beetle, it’s making 389 horsepower for the rear custom wheels to consume thanks to a new tune, Garrett turbocharger, Tialsport turbine housing, and a few other goodies.

But the list doesn’t stop there when it comes to modifications. Up front, there’s a tailored A-arm suspension while the rear utilizes the suspension and subframe from the MkII/MkIII Volkswagen Golf. Behind the custom wheels sits new Wilwood braking system for better, more reliable stopping power to counteract the new Audi engine.

After all the modifications were done and the Volkswagen Beetle was finished, it was ready to show off its capabilities. And, what better way than to light up those rear tires and do some drifts and burnouts?
