Watch the Upcoming 2017 Ford Raptor Test its Off Road Wheels

Through the mud, dirt, and water we go!

One of the toughest and most powerful trucks on the market has been the Ford F-150 Raptor. Although the new, 13th-generation Ford F-150 models and their aluminum bodies are rolling off the factory line, the automaker’s engineers are putting the finishing touches on the upcoming 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor by putting it and its off road wheels through the paces.

While fans of the Ford F-150 Raptor are anxiously awaiting its arrival at dealerships, Ford Performance engineers are getting its off road wheels dirty in the trails of Northern Michigan for testing. Shown on video, the new F-150 Raptor is going through mud, dirt, and water, up and down steep inclines, and over obstacles to ensure that it can perform better than anything else on the market.

The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will be able to overcome tougher obstacles, hills, and more than the previous-generation models. The improvements come thanks to a greater ground clearance that allows the off road wheels more vertical travel. Coming standard will be new 3.0-inch FOX Racing Shox with a newly-designed tailored internal bypass technology. The new high-tech shocks can dampen and stiffen for better traction over rough terrain.

New technology also comes in the form of a new four-wheel drive torque-on-demand transfer case. The system allows for power to be distributed to the off road wheels in certain situations similar to an all-wheel drive setup while retaining the mechanical-locking four-wheel drive that truck drivers need.

The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will be hitting dealer lots in the Fall of 2016.
