And it’s essentially stock!

Moab, Utah is a beautiful place. It’s a wonderland of sights and natural rock formations that creates an incredible landscape. It’s also home to some of the best and toughest off-road trails and obstacles in the United States, and the Kia Sorrento just tackled one with its tires and rims!

No, not a fully-upgraded and modified Kia Sorrento, a factory spec one with a few minor tweaks.

A new 2018 Kia Sorrento SX was tasked with conquering the legendary Hell’s Gate in Moab Utah. For this adventure the team installed a set of all terrain tires, added a skidplate to protect the oil pan, and disconnected the sway bars. With the relatively stock tires and rims, the Kia set out to drive up the off-road icon.

What makes the Hell’s Gate obstacle so difficult is its steep incline, narrow width, and slippery rock surface that makes it hard for tires and rims to get proper grip. Maneuvers are also more difficult due to the lack of space drivers have to play with while going up the obstacle. However, the Kia Sorrento and its 3.3-liter V-6 engine with 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft. of torque were able to power their way up and through Hell’s Gate.

Of course, the team did experience a few dings, bumps, and challenges along the way. The SUV nicked a few rocks and its tires and rims did experience slip while trying to go up the rock face.

But, in the end, the almost stock Kia Sorrento was able to win the battle. Pretty impressive for a crossover SUV.
