The results might surprise you.

Since humans have been driving, we’ve been looking for ways to make the ride quality more comfortable and supple. New suspensions have been designed, new materials used, and even BOSE created an electromagnetic system. This Russian is using coil springs as tires and rims to achieve the unthinkable.

The idea is well, nothing new for this crazy Russian that runs the Garage54 Youtube channel. After getting some suggestions from fans, he decided to give making tires and rims out of coil springs a shot. So, he went to the local scrap yard and picked up a few springs from an old car.

After making a few cuts to create equally-long pieces, he got to welding the coil springs to a couple of steel wheels, welding each one to a specific area to create two equal tires and rims. The end result was two very bouncy rolling pieces of metal that were ready to be installed on a Lada 2102.

After mounting each one of the new coil tires and rims on the rear axle of the Lada, it was time to test drive it down a muddy, pothole-ridden road that’s not open to the public.

The new coil “tires” performed admirably according to the driver, absorbing quite a bit of the imperfections in the road and softening the ride quality at the rear axle. Despite being surprised at how well they performed, the driver did not try to go fast nor did they try to do a burnout with them as that could’ve resulted in some seriously bad things happening.

Unfortunately, WheelHero does not sell coil tires. Sorry, folks!
