Chop it up, throw on aftermarket wheels, and voila!
The BMW X5 isn’t exactly thought of or even used in many off-roading situations. It was heavily influenced by Land Rover during its development but has since grown into a people hauler that you’ll find at mall parking lots instead of in the dirt and mud. Not this custom chopped up BMW X5 with aftermarket wheels, though!
This BMW X5 came into the hands of these crazy car guys at AcademeG as a heavily damaged, totaled SUV. The second-gen, E70 X5 had lots of body damage, interior damage, and was dirty as all hell when it was unloaded. The AcademeG guys then got to work, using a saw and sledgehammers to chop off the roof. They deployed the air bags, stripped out the interior, and gave it a quick clean before installing new upgrades and aftermarket wheels.
After the initial chop job, the guys had to speed around in the top-less SUV. After all, there was quite a bit of weight shed and the center of gravity was considerably lower.
The guys then brought the SUV back to their shop where they began transforming it into a real off-road monster. New bars were welded into a cage in case of a roll over on top. New aftermarket wheels were installed along with a beefed up suspension to handle the rough terrain.
After the work was done, the AcademeG got to having some fun. The SUV performed brilliantly in the dirt, mud, water, and hills. The new tires on the aftermarket wheels were able to chew through all sorts of terrain with ease while the drivers and passengers got a face full of mud and dirt – just like off-roading should be!
The chopped up BMW X5 did endure quite a bit of damage, but you can bet that this SUV will be plowing through trails for years to come!
