Throwin’ it back, brah!
The days of hanging ten on the west coast may not be what they used to, but Jeep is bringing back the memories with their new Jeep Chief concept. The new, Hawaiian-styled classic surfer lifestyle will be making its debut complete with classic design and off road wheels and tires at the Easter Jeep Safari event from March 28th to April 5th in Moab, Utah.
The 49th annual event will play host to thousands of Jeep enthusiasts along with seven new Jeep concept vehicles with upgraded off road wheels and tires a mix of production and concept parts from Jeep Performance Parts and Mopar.
“The most enthusiastic off-roaders travel to Moab each year for this premier event, making Easter Jeep Safari the perfect place to showcase Jeep Performance Parts,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO – Mopar Brand Service, Parts and Customer Care. “Jeep owners are passionate about their vehicles and Mopar, with Jeep Authentic Accessories and Jeep Performance Parts, offers a full-line of products for them to express this passion through customization, making sure there is no other vehicle like theirs on the road.”
The new Jeep Chief is based on the current Wrangler with a design that pays homage to the full-size Jeep Cherokees of the 1970s and the classic beach rides. The exterior was given a vintage Ocean blue paint contrasted by a white, French Bread roof. The front razor grille mimics that of the original Wagoneer’s and sits between two bright halogen headlights. Chrome bumpers are worn at the front and rear, and all of the windows and doors were chopped by two inches. A new set 17-inch off road wheels and tires are used to complete the old-school ‘70s style.
In terms of the chassis, the off road wheels and tires are complemented by a range of new Jeep Performance Parts. Special Dana 44 axles with lockers, and a two-inch lift kit with Fox shocks make for more fun in any terrain. A new cold air intake also helps the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine breathe a little easier.
Inside, the Jeep Chief really gets the surfer lifestyle flowing. Jeep-designed “Surfer” pink, blue, and white flowered cloth matches the leather seats while classic surf stickers are worn on the center console and door handles. A Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen media center is the centerpiece of the dashboard. The surfer theme continues with a tiki-style shifter and Rosewood front passenger grab handle.
