Back in 2012, Jeep introduced a number of new upgrade concept for the Grand Cherokee at the Houston Auto Show and asked fans to submit their names for the new package. After 100,000 entries, Jeep chose the ‘Altitude’ as the new name. After a limited run with a few models in 2012, Jeep is bringing the Altitude name back on a number of new models including the Wrangler. The new Wrangler Altitude Special Edition models have special ‘blacked-out’ exterior designs, new Jeep rims, and a commanding styling that exudes confidence.

“The unique ‘blacked-out’ theme of the Jeep Altitude models resonated so well with consumers two years ago that it makes perfect sense to bring them back now, particularly since we have new versions of the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “What began as a production-intent concept and naming contest generated significant buzz and evolved into a lineup of special-edition Jeep vehicles that appeal to many consumers – especially those wanting a very distinct, aggressive and edgy look.”

The new 2014 Wrangler Altitude special edition models will be based on the Sahara variant and be available in two- and four-door versions. The SUV will come in either Amp’d Black, Granite Crystal, or Hydro Blue colors and wear a large matte black ‘Wrangler’ decal across the hood. Matte black also adorns the grille with gloss black throats, headlight rings, and Jeep badge, while gloss black is worn by trim pieces on the front and rear bumpers, and the 18-inch seven spoke Jeep rims. As standard, the Freedom Top is body-colored while the Dual Top with premium Sunrider soft top can be had as an option.

In addition to the new Jeep rims and blacked-out exterior colors, the new Wrangler Altitude special edition also has some exciting interior additions. New black leather with black stitching is worn on the seats and steering wheel, the latter of which has black-painted spokes for a uniform look. Black is also featured on the hex bolts, vent rings, and grab handles throughout the interior.

The new 2014 Wrangler Altitude will come standard with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine sending a total of 285 horsepower and 265 lb-ft. of torque to all four Jeep rims. Customers can choose from either a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission. Pricing for the two-door will start at $31,595 while the four-doors will be priced at $35,395.
