Clocking in the 2017 model year with some serious power!

Ford has just announced the power figures for the upcoming 2017 F-150 Raptor and boy are they enticing for the off-road enthusiast. Not only will the second-generation EcoBoost V-6 engine be sending some serious power to all four truck wheels, but a new 10-speed gearbox will be helping to improve fuel economy.

“Raptor was designed to be a no-compromise, off-road performance machine,” said Matt Tranter, Ford Performance engineering supervisor. “That is why we made the switch from the cast-iron V8 to the aluminum block, high-output GTDI V-6 EcoBoost engine that our team tuned to add 39 horsepower and 76 lb.-ft. of torque for today’s Raptor.”

The second-generation 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 EcoBoost engine powering all four truck wheels on the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor was developed with the Ford Performance team then tuned specifically for the off-road application.

In total, the new EcoBoost V-6 engine produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. of torque in a wide powerband with quick throttle response for all four truck wheels.

And that’s only part of the story with the 2017 Ford F-150. An all-new 10-speed automatic transmission and new transfer case will deliver power to all four truck wheels and be controlled by a six-mode Terrain Management System. Optimized shift points help to achieve maximum grip and acceleration, while taking advantage of the massive power band of the EcoBoost engine.

“Looking at the torque curve of the Raptor’s EcoBoost engine, you see the twin turbos spool quicker for faster time to torque – it hammers quick and keeps delivering torque for a more brawny feel than its V8 predecessor,” said Al Cockerill, Raptor’s powertrain development engineer.

To top it all off, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is 23-percent more efficient in EPA-rated testing compared to the previous-generation Raptor model.

Keep an eye out for the muscular, terrain-shredding awesomeness of the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor!
