Need To Measure Your Vehicle for Custom Wheels? Here’s How!

Measuring for custom wheels

Start taking your car to the next level.

One of the best modifications that you can make to your vehicle is installing a new set of custom wheels. However, it’s not just as simple as picking a wheel design that you like and just bolting it on; there are quite a few specifications and information that you need to gather before you purchase and install them. Luckily, we’re here to help you out with this informative video.

The first step in getting measurements for your new custom wheels is to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands so that you can safety remove the mounted wheel. The first measurement that you need to take of your vehicle is from the wheel hub to the first obstruction point on the inner fender, frame, or suspension. You can get this information by attaching a straight-edge to the surface of the hub and measuring to the inside. The next step is to measure from the mounting surface to the first outside obstruction.

After those two measurements, the next one that you’ll have to get before you get any custom wheels is the hub diameter. The brake diameter is next, which is very important if you are using a set of aftermarket brakes. This will ensure proper clearance between the custom wheels and the brake disc. The protrusion of the caliper is also recommended so that it does not rub against the inside of the new custom wheels when installed. The last and final measurement is for the length of the hub to ensure proper center cap clearance.

If you are using aftermarket brakes, you should consult the manufacturer’s website for specifications and dimensions.

After all the measurements, it’s time to order yourself some new wheels!
