Get ready, TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Motegi and Mazda are coming!

As the final checkered flag came down in 2013, the American Le Mans Series came to an end. The unfortunate end of the sports car racing series opened up doors for a new series and the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series was created that will incorporate GT and prototype classes. The new racing season is quickly approaching and Motegi Wheels has announced a technical partnership with Mazda Motorsports for the 2014 season.

“We’re excited about this partnership with Mazda Motorsports as part of our growth at the highest level of global motorsports,” said Jody Groce, president of Wheel Pros, the company that owns the Motegi Racing brand. “The depth of the Mazda heritage in prototype racing is fantastic and we are honored to become its technical partner.”

Motorsports is the tried-and-true way of showcasing the performance and durability of a product and one of the best ways to gain valuable knowledge and experience. The new partnership will see Motegi Wheels supply the Technomesh forged wheel to the two Mazda Motorsports SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel prototype race cars. The Technomesh Motegi Wheels have been used successfully in various GT racing classes, but their expansion into prototype racing will help create an even better product.

“This program provides the perfect technical platform to communicate the continuous expansion of the Motegi Racing brand in the global racing segment and our technical presence in race tracks around the world competing against the best in the industry is very important,” said Groce. “Motorsports is a proving ground for our technology to hone the performance authenticity of our brand.”

“With the launch of our prototype racing program, having the best technical partners is a must,” John Doonan, Director, Mazda Motorsports explained. “With Motegi Racing we have their latest Technomesh™ wheel optimized for our engineering demands.”

The Technomesh wheel begins its life as a single piece of forged aluminum billet at Motegi Wheels. The billet is spun, heat-treated, and meticulously inspected for quality, imperfections, and tolerances before it is shipped from the United States to the company facilities in Italy for machining, milling, shot peening, inspection, and finishing to create the wheel.

The private vehicle testing is already underway, but the Mazda Motorsports SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel race cars will make their official debut at the Rolex 24 official test sessions from January 3rd through 5th at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida wearing the new Motegi Wheels.
