Stylin’ hot hatch.
The tried and true hot hatch in the automotive world is the Volkswagen GTI. It has dominated the hot hatchback performance marketplace for decades and has quite the cult-like following as well. There’s good reason for this die-hard enthusiasm; the GTI has served up a nimble chassis and peppy engine with some other go-fast doodads and the capability of a hatchback to boot. The outgoing sixth-generation Mk VI GTI stuck to that formula well and it can get even better with the addition of new BBS CK wheels and tires as part of a list of performance-oriented modifications.
Take this 2012 Volkswagen GTI with the Autobahn package. It sports all kinds of go-fast goodies such as a new set of BBS CK wheels, new styling modifications, engine upgrades, and of course new suspension goodies to go along with the new wheels and tires package.
The 2.0 TSI turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine dishes out a healthy 210 horsepower at 5,300 RPM to 6,200 RPM and 207 lb-ft. from 1,700 to 5,200 RPM to the front BBS CK wheels, making for a quick sprint to 60 mph. But, this Volkswagen was equipped with a few new modifications to make sure those new wheels and tires spin with fury. The 2.0 TSI was outfitted with a Neuspeed P-Flo air intake, Apexi filter element, and an APR Stage 1 tune to boost that power up considerably.
Ensuring that all that power reaches the road is a new set of wheels and tires along with some suspension modifications. The bright white Volkswagen GTI was outfitted with a set of powder coated BBS CK wheels in a 19-inch diameter and then equipped with 235/35 R19 Toyo Proxes 4 tires to ensure maximum grip during cornering, braking, and acceleration. Next up was a set of Koni coilovers that reduce the ride height and optimize the center of gravity for better handling dynamics.
In terms of exterior styling, the Volkswagen GTI was kept mostly stock save for a few subtle modifications. New DEPO LED taillights, painted side markers, and Lamin-X yellow foglight decals take care of all the lighting while a Suntek Carbon 45-percent tint adds a darker contrast to the white paint.
