The world of rally racing is an intense and difficult type of motorsport that sees cars subject to incredible amounts of stress. Only the best survive and the most talented (and lucky) win. The same goes for the FIA World Rallycross Championship, which saw KMC Wheels reach the podium at the World RX in Belgium.

Reinis Nitiss of the Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta ST may have started slow, but finished with a very respectable 3rd place finish to the race. The podium is his second-straight of the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship season, with a second place finish at Hockenheim previously.

“It feels good to be back on the podium again,” said Nitiss. “With the Olsbergs MSE team, I feel like I have the best people around me and they help me a lot.”

He and his Ford Fiesta ST with KMC Wheels began the day with a disappointing ninth-place finish in the opening heats and an 11th place finish in the Semifinals where only the Top 12 advance.

“The car was perfect and everything worked perfectly, but I felt like my driving wasn’t where it needed to be,” said the 19-year-old Nitiss. “I’m happy for the result, but I’m not as happy with my driving.”

During the race, Nitiss and his Fiesta ST with KMC Wheels were towards the back of the pack when a bottleneck in the first turn allowed him to pass others and cross the line in third place.

His teammate, Baakerud, driving a Ford Fiesta ST with KMC Wheels suffered a punctured tire after a collision with the driver’s side corner. The tire lost air and he finished the race with an impressive 5th place riding on only the rim.

“It’s my third time in the final in a row and I feel I did a really good job but the result just isn’t there and I’m disappointed,” said Bakkerud. “We are quick, and it feels right and we have the speed, but we aren’t there yet. I’m hoping it will come at Lydden Hill. We’re ready.”
