2017 F-250 Super Duty XLT Project SD126

The ultimate in off-road performance.

Ford is swinging for the fences at the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The automaker brought a whopping 50 cars – 11 of which are custom builds to the show. This 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT is named “Project SD126” and is built for off-road performance with a new suspension, aftermarket wheels, and wider body.

The new Ford Project SD126 at SEMA is based on a 2017 Ford F-250 4×4 Super Duty XLT Regular Cab that was converted to a custom short-bed with a 126-inch wheelbase along with a wider body to accommodate the fatter tires and aftermarket wheels.

The 6.7-liter PowerStroke turbodiesel V-8 engine under the hood also gets a bit of a boost. A new S&B cold-air intake, EZ-LYNK programmer, and Diamond Eye exhaust system that helps send more than the factory 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft. of torque to all four aftermarket wheels through a TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission.

But one of the biggest parts of the conversion was with the chassis. Here, the Ford Project SD126 was given a new BDS Suspension four-link conversion up front and trailing arm conversion at the rear. New FOX 2.5 DSC coilovers and 3.0 external bypass shocks allow the aftermarket wheels and tires 14.0-inches of vertical travel. FOX 2.0 IFP bump stops and Pac Racing monster way bar and coil springs help make traveling off-road easier. To handle the added power, new F450 Dana60/M300 10-lug axles with 4.30 gearing were installed along with LE Reel front and rear driveshafts.

Hitting the dirt on the Ford Project SD126 are Stazworks Cheyenne 8 wheels and BFGoodrich Baja TA KR tires.

Visually, the Project SD126 is an intimidating presence on or off the road. Beefy McNeil Racing fiberglass fenders and bedsides extend outwards and mesh into the Rogue Racing front and rear bumpers. Up front, a Warn Zeon 12-S winch with Factor 55 FlatLink is ready to help while an RK Sport ram air hood sits above. A vibrant PPG Orange metallic paint was applied by Butler Body Shop to most of the exterior and the aftermarket wheels. New Rigid Industries 40-inch LED lights and RDS lightbar illuminate the dark along with the amber radiance pods and Recon smoked cab and third brake lights.

The new Ford Project SD126 also boasts a wide range of audio accessories inside from Kicker and CompRT. A new set of PRP Racing endure recliner seats and harnesses were installed along with a 1.75-inch roll bar.

The Ford Project SD126 won’t ever see production, but it’s a look at what you could do with enough time and money to your Ford F-250 Super Duty.
