Ford F-Series history

One of the most important American vehicles of all time.

Love it or hate it, the Ford F-Series has been one of the most impactful and important vehicles in the United States. It’s the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. and started all the way back in 1917 when it was first digging its wooden-spoke truck rims into the dirt.

The Ford F-Series began way back in 1917 when Ford gave its Model T a bit more usability in the form of the Model TT. Nine years later, Ford introduced the Model AA, which had a few more features including steel truck rims instead of the previous-model’s wooden-spoke wheels. Business owners, farmers, and others began buying the vehicle up because of its usability and capabilities.

Ford F-Series history

After World War II, Ford shifted production back to making civilian vehicles. In 1948, they introduced the F-Series Bonus Built line that further improved the model’s usability and capability. In 1953, the F-100 received more creature comforts that made doing work and driving one much easier. The real big shock came in 1959, when Ford gave the F-100 four-wheel drive. This gave the truck even greater abilities allowing all four truck rims to be driven and plow through tougher terrain.

In the years following, Ford gave the F-100 new features such as a Super Cab and Twin I-Beam suspension until it was discontinued in 1980. Ford introduced the F-150 in 1975, where it has been a mainstay ever since.

Since then, Ford has pushed the truck in terms of performance and innovation. The 1993 Lightning model packed a ton of power and was faster than a Mustang GT on the track. The Lightning returned in 1999 where it threw down 460 supercharged ponies to the rear truck rims. The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor came about in 2010 as an off-road performance truck featured several innovative technologies, including a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine in the later years. This helped increase power and improve efficiency in the process.

There’s on average two Ford F-series models sold every minute in the United States. It’s a vehicle that’s helped to shape the pickup truck and give people around the country a more capable vehicle to fulfill their needs and freedoms. And for that, we thank you.
