Don’t even try and run.

For quite some time, drivers were able to easily identify police vehicles in traffic. Their big light bars, graphics, exterior-mounted radar, headlights, and even their steel rims and tires could be dead giveaways. They weren’t exactly inconspicuous, but things are changing with all the new technology that’s available today.

Ford is now offering a super-low-profile visor light bar for the Police Interceptor Utility model for a stealthy appearance that will catch other driver off guard if they’re breaking the law. The interior light bar avoids another visible body-mounted light addition and keeps things from the body to the rims and tires looking rather normal.

“Today, agencies typically use aftermarket interior visor light bars that are somewhat bulky and can obstruct the field of vision – especially for taller officers,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager for North American fleet, lease and remarketing operations. “This extremely low-profile unit is fully integrated where the headliner and top of the windshield meet, for tremendously improved driver visibility versus aftermarket alternatives.”

The new factory-installed front interior visor light bar gives police agencies a more stealth-like appearance for their patrol vehicles. The dark shade band that’s normally found at the top of the windshield is replaced by the light bar and clear glass for optimum visibility.

The dark Police Interceptor Utility with black body and rims and tires only features two side mirror-mounted LED spotlights as extra body additions. The light bar comes standard with a limited warranty and keeps interior space maximized.

The stealthy LED interior light bar can be programmed to flash red and blue, red and red, or blue and blue with various “take down” and “scene” programs that emit bright white light for better visibility. The intensity of the light can also be adjusted from 20-percent all the way up to full.

The visor light is available on all 2017 Police Interceptor Utility models. The SUV can be fitted with either a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 or 3.7-liter V-6 engine driving all four of the black rims and tires through a standard all-wheel drive system.
