Over the past few years, Chevrolet has dominated different racing series thanks to the racing versions of their Corvettes. After the introduction of the new C7-generation Corvette, a racing variant called the Corvette C7.R was created and quickly picked up the production where the previous-generation model had left off. Its success is now carrying over to the streets where Chevrolet announced a limited run of 500 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Editions that featured everything from custom wheels to racing livery and upgraded chassis and aero components.

“Corvette Racing’s legacy and technology were significant influences on the development of the Corvette Z06 and the new C7.R Edition honors the direct link between the racecar and the production model,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager. “It also advances Chevrolet’s plan to offer special-edition models that offer a unique, personal ownership experiences, which become important parts of Corvette’s legacy.”

At the heart of the new 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R is the same supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine as found in the standard models. A thundering 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft. of torque is sent to both of the rear custom wheels as they work to keep grip. Many new performance and visual upgrades begin to show elsewhere.

A special Corvette Racing Yellow Tintcoat or Black paint adorns the new limited-edition model along with C7.R Edition graphics. The Z07 Performance Package comes standard with new visible carbon fiber ground effects that work to generate downforce and keep the new custom wheels pushing at the pavement.

Touching the pavement are new Michelin PS Cup 2 tires that are built for one thing – traction. This sticky rubber is worn by black custom wheels sporting a yellow accent strip and Corvette Racing center caps. Peeking out from behind are new Brembo carbon ceramic brakes that reduce weight and improve stopping power.

“The Z07 Performance Package enhances overall performance to make the Corvette Z06 one of the most track-capable cars you can buy off the dealership floor and still drive it to work every day,” said Charles.

Inside, the high-performance racing theme continues. The new Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition sports a Jet Black leather interior with sueded microfiber accenting and contrasting yellow stitching, Corvette Racing sill plates, and a specially-numbered C7.R Edition interior plaque showcasing the build number.

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R will strictly limited to just 500 units.
