SEMA to the Showroom.

At the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Chevrolet unveiled the Silverado High Desert package concept that had all sorts of new features built for capability and off roading with style. Two years later, the concept package has become reality with the new Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package sporting new suspension, rims and tires, and cargo capabilities.

“The High Desert package blends the capability and utility of Silverado with the refinement and luxury of Suburban,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing. “It’s ideal for those customers who want both the security of a lockable cargo area, as well as the flexibility of a pickup truck bed.”

One of the most noticeable aspects of the Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package is its suspension. Instead of the traditional setup, Magnetic Ride Control is used for the first time ever in a Silverado for High Country models. The system analyzes the road ahead and quickly makes adjustments by the millisecond using magnet-rheological fluid with iron particles to adjust resistance using a magnetic charge. This ensures that each of the rims and tires maintains optimum control and traction.

The Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package will be available on LT LTZ, and High Country trims. For the LT trim, new 20-inch rims and tires come standard while the LTZ and High Country trims gain 22-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.

Also making a huge impact on capability in the Chevrolet Silverado High Desert is the cargo bed. A lockable storage system keeps essential equipment out of the elements. The roll-formed steel bed features side storage bins and a three-piece tonneau cover with cargo divider inside. For security, the tailgate can be locked with the key fob.

Coming standard on the Silverado High Desert LTZ and High Country models is the EcoTec3 6.2-liter V-8 engine. The naturally-aspirated motor sends a total of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque through the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic gearbox to the rims and tires.

The new Chevrolet Silverado High Desert will be available at dealerships in the fall of this year.
