Carrying on an iconic name.

Back in 1963, the King Cobra name came to be thanks to Carroll Shelby and the high-performance Cooper Monaco racecars powered by 289-cubic-inch Ford V-8 engines. In 1970, the name was revived for a prototype NASCAR stock car that never raced, then again in 1978 with the Mustang II and it’s special “5.0” 302-cubic-inch V-8 engine. Now, with the new-generation Mustang and its 5.0-liter V-8, Ford has again revived the name for their one-off SEMA model sporting Ford Racing’s Drag Pack, Handling Pack, Super Pack, and custom wheels.

The new 2015 Mustang GT “King Cobra” made its global debut at the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas sporting the wide range of performance parts that are set to be available through Ford Racing’s parts catalog from a new supercharger system to custom wheels and suspension options. The one-off show car is built to be a street-and-drag strip high-performance car and can be optioned to-spec through the new parts catalog.

“At Ford Racing, we like to push cars to their absolute limit,” said Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. “This is something we have been doing for 113 years and why we were so excited to get our hands on the all-new, 2015 Mustang.”

“We wanted Mustang enthusiasts to be able to open up the Ford Racing parts catalog and get one of everything and see what they could get. We think the King Cobra package is it. But none of this great work would be possible if Team Mustang had not built the best production Mustang yet.”

The new Ford Mustang GT King Cobra one-off sports the new Ford Racing Drag Pack, Handling Pack, and Super Pack. The Drag Pack includes new heavy-duty half shafts, rear sub-frame kit with pre-installed high-performance bushings, and other goodies to help improve traction and ensure all the power reaches the ground through the custom wheels. The Handling Pack adds on lowering springs to both axles that drop the ride height by one inch, rear shocks, and a stabilizer bar kit.

The most exciting part of the featured King Cobra is the Super Pack which includes a 2.3-liter Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger that was co-developed and co-branded by Ford Racing and ROUSH Performance. The supercharger system includes a six-rib belt drive, new intake manifold and larger throttle body, air inlet system, new fuel rains and high-flow injectors, an air-to-liquid intercooler, and a Ford Racing performance ECU tune to send over 600 horsepower to the rear custom wheels. In early testing, the King Cobra package was able to achieve a 10.97-second quarter-mile run at Milan Dragway in Michigan.

Customers of the 2015 Ford Mustang GT will be able to replicate the King Cobra package seen at the 2014 SEMA Show through the Ford Racing parts catalog. Pricing and exact specifications of the parts have not been released.
