Chrysler has made a monster.

Out of the new muscle cars that have been revived by the Big Three American automakers, the Dodge Challenger has been the one to stick closest to its roots. While the Mustang and Camaro focus on overall performance packages from handling to straight-line performance, the Challenger has been the big, bad, coupe fit for the drag strip. Now, it’s even badder thanks to the new supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine in the Challenger SRT Hellcat model with over 600 horsepower, new wheels and tires, and some bonus body work.

“The new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the ultimate performance muscle car,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO – Dodge Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Dodge is the Mainstream Performance brand, and now combined with SRT, we are able to unleash a true GT car with an all-new driver-focused interior and the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission combined with the most

The most exciting part of the new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 hidden beneath its ventilated hood. The engine is the most powerful production V8 ever produced by the American automaker and has all sorts of advanced tech stuffed into it, making those rear wheels and tires spin into a cloud of smoke.

The 6.2-liter V8 has a supercharger sitting right atop of it and feeding boost directly into the engine. Almost everything from the crankshaft to the connecting rods, pistons, and more are made from forged metal alloy and can withstand utterly ridiculous amounts of force. This helps a total of over 600 horsepower to reach each of the rear wheels and tires through either a beefed up six-speed manual or a reinforced eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

A new set of wheels and tires are also part of the new Challenger SRT Hellcat muscle car. Exclusive forged aluminum, matte black, seven double-spoke wheels measuring 20 x 9.5 inches come standard while an optional set of forged aluminum Brass Monkey/dark bronze-finished 20 x 9.5 wheels are also available. Pirelli worked to create a special set of all-season P Zero tires for all-weather performance that measure 275/40ZR20 and can be optioned as three-season tires as well.

Aerodynamics was a focus for the new Challenger and the Hellcat has it optimized for better cooling and downforce. Because of the massive need for air, a ram air inlet is positioned in the driver’s side parking light in the front fascia. A new front splitter also helps to generate downforce at the front axle while a raised trunk spoiler does the same job to keep the rear wheels and tires planted at high speeds. Inside, a few classic goodies and exclusive options from gauges to trim pieces are featured in the Hellcat model.

A total of 11 different colors will be offered for the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and official pricing and specifications will be unveiled at a later date.

707 horse and small rear wheels. That should be interesting.
