Lightweight wheels and tires in Moab.

Every year, thousands of Jeep enthusiasts gather in Moab, Utah for the Easter Jeep Safari. This week-long event kicks off spring and has all kinds of off-roading through some of America’s most scenic trails. Jeep and Mopar have teamed up once again to bring seven new concept vehicles sporting new designs, old-school looks, new wheels and tires, and inspiration for what’s to come from the Jeep brand.

“Pushing the limit is something the Jeep brand is no stranger to and these seven new, exciting and capable concept vehicles are the latest example of that,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand, FCA. “Every year, we look forward to introducing new concept vehicles and ideas to our enthusiasts. The Moab Easter Jeep Safari presents a unique and perfect opportunity to collect valuable insight from our most loyal customers.”

The new Jeep 4SPEED concept features a range of new Mopar-developed Jeep Performance parts and is built for off-road excitement. The entire concept was developed as a lightweight all-terrain performance SUV with the brand’s new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four at the heart, powering all four wheels and tires.

The goal of cutting weight can be easily seen throughout the Jeep 4SPEED concept, starting with the generous use of carbon fiber in body panels such as the hood, high-clearance fender flares, and rear tub with perforated aluminum panels. The design gets even more exciting from there with its sleek profile that comes from the raked windshield, wider door openings, and swept-back cage. The SUV also sits 2.0 inches higher because of its lower weight.

Beneath the body, the new Jeep 4SPEED has a length that’s 22 inches shorter with the same wheelbase for better approach and departure angles while off-roading. There’s also a new set of Dana 44 axles and the front and rear paired with a 4.10 gear ratio. New 18 inch lightweight monoblock wheels with 35-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires ensure endless grip in a variety of situations.

Under that hood, there’s a new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine that’s new to the brand. This is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and powers all four wheels and tires through the mud, muck, and rock.

Inside, the new Jeep 4SPEED concept has been given an array of custom goodies. A new instrument panel and upholstered front seats make room for driver and passenger while the rear seats have been removed and replaced with a welding curtain and bikini top. Bedliner is worn by the floor while perforated aluminum adorns the foot wells.

The new Jeep 4SPEED concept won’t ever make it to production, however there are quite a few upgrades and parts featured here that will be available to Jeep owners in the future.
