Making sure that you can’t hide from the police anywhere.
For years, police agencies around the United States were known for their Ford Crown Victorias and it was rare that they utilized anything else, let alone a truck. Now, Chevrolet is offering up their highly-regarded Silverado models to Police and Emergency agencies around the United States. These Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service Vehicle (SSV) models are suited for emergency personnel use and can even be optioned with all sorts of goodies to go along with the standard auxiliary units, off road wheels, and more to make catching those bad guys even easier.
The new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab SSV has the same foundation as the public vehicle that have helped make it a very dependable and low-cost vehicle to own, including the highest EPA highway fuel economy for a 2WD V-8 full-size pickup of 23 mpg.
“Last year, the Silverado 1500 was awarded for its low cost of ownership, a key purchasing factor for municipalities and government agencies,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president for GM Fleet & Commercial. “The EcoTec3 engine provides the best fuel economy of any V-8 and still gives agencies the power and capability they need from a full-size pickup.”
The new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engine is more efficient than its predecessor while also making plenty of power. A total of 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft. of torque is sent to each of the off road wheels for more than enough power in any situation. The engine is also equipped with a high-flow air filter as well. In order to reliably run the electronic systems such as lights and sirens, the Silverado 1500 Crew Cab SSV is equipped with a 170-amp high-output alternator along with a 730 CCA auxiliary battery that operates electronics while the engine is turned off instead of draining the normal battery. A 100-volt outlet and four upfitter switches with electrical power supply help for all of the additional tools needed on the job.
In addition to the durable engine, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab SSV also comes standard with an auxiliary transmission oil cooler system. Behind the off road wheels sit new Duralife brake rotors that can last up to two times longer than traditional brakes for a better service life.
“Nearly two-thirds of the Silverado SSV’s cab is made of high-strength steel, and inlaid triple-sealed doors create a strong, quiet mobile workspace to conduct daily business,” said Peper.
All of the new Silverado 1500 Crew Cab SSVs will be available with a wide range of options. Municipalities will be able to option their truck with upgrades ranging from new off road wheels to a front center seat delete, electronic four-wheel drive switch, vinyl rear seats, spot lamps, and more.
