More good things are in store for the new Chevrolet truck lineup.

One of the biggest and most important models in the Chevrolet lineup is its Silverado full-size truck model. From the 1500 to the 3500 HD models, these trucks are incredibly important to the success of the brand and General Motors as a whole. After a lackluster sales debut of the latest-generation of Silverado models, General Motors and Chevrolet are going back to the drawing board and planning a few new updates ranging from new Chevrolet 1500 wheels, more efficient engines and transmissions, and even new styling updates throughout the truck’s life cycle until the new generation is unveiled in 2018.

Driving the Chevrolet 1500 wheels are three different three different gasoline engines. A 4.3-liter LV3 GM EcoTec3 4300 V-6 produces 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft. of torque while its larger 5.3 L L83 GM EcoTec3 5300 V-8 sibling spits out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft. of torque. The top dog in the range drives the Chevrolet 1500 wheels with ease, producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque from the 6.2 L L86 GM EcoTec3 6200 V-8 powerplant. All of these engines are mated to a 6-speed 6L80 automatic that is capable of handling the tremendous amount of forces a truck is subjected to on a daily basis.

While those engines provide more than enough power, the trend in the automotive industry and the truck driving market is achieving better fuel efficiency. To attain these higher fuel economy numbers, the General Motors team is planning on updating a number of different aspects of the trucks ranging from the possibility of new engines and transmissions with more gears to new Chevrolet 1500 wheels and styling updates.

“You’ll see these kinds of technologies over the next few years, a whole array of neat, new technologies, some focused on fuel economy, some focused on capability,” said GM’s Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer for pickups. “You’ll see some neat updates on the trucks and SUVs, you’ll see them coming, I’d say in short order,” Luke said. “Then the year after that, the year after that, the year after that, you’ll see some neat things coming in a whole host of areas.”

The new styling updates, Chevrolet 1500 wheels, and newly refined engines and transmissions are expected to yield a more efficient product that still retains the durability and toughness customers have come to expect from their General Motors full-size truck. The engineers in charge of the truck divisions have even considered using stop-start technology that would shut off the engine at stoplights and prevent fuel from being wasted at idle while the truck is not in motion. The system automatically restarts the engine when the throttle is pressed and seamlessly accelerates the truck.

Expect the new changes in the range of Chevrolet Silverado models and other GM trucks to begin appearing in the 2015-model-year vehicles.
