Showing off its capabilities.

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 isn’t your basic mid-size truck that’s designed for light loads, everyday driving, and other truck things. The ZR2 is designed to go off road and is more than capable of putting its truck rims in far, remote places that are hard to get to with a regular SUV or truck.

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 variant is the top of the line when it comes to off road performance. There’s loads of goodies that come standard such as functional rock sliders; skid plates over the radiator, oil pan, and transfer case; and tapered front and rear bumpers for greater clearance on both ends. New front and rear electronic locking differentials help to better distribute power and achieve better grip. There’s even new Multimatic DSSV Dampers that allow the truck rims greater travel.

Then there’s the choice of engines. Here, customers can opt for the 3.6-liter V-6 that spits out 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft. of torque to get the job done. Or, if they want more toque hitting their truck rims, then can get the 2.8-liter Duramax LWN inline-four cylinder turbodiesel that produces 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque.

To show just how capable and proficient at conquering the roads less traveled, Chevrolet brought the Colorado to the Rubicon Trail in California for a drive. The trail, which is arguably one of the toughest in the country, was taken on head-first by the new Colorado ZR2. Oftentimes, the truck rims were right up in the air, but the truck was able to overcome quite a few difficult obstacles without any modifications.
