Burn those Rims and Tires ‘til the House goes Down!

Miata Burnout Rims and Tires

Well, that didn’t go as planned.

Stuffing a big displacement, high horsepower engine into a small, lightweight vehicle like a Mazda Miata equates to a lot of crazy fun. Crazy in a sense that it’s absolutely freaking nuts to the point where it can be unsafe. Just ask this owner who pushed his car, its engine, and its rims and tires too far.

This Mazda Miata isn’t packing the puny, stock four-cylinder, naturally aspirate motor; it’s hauling around a big, American V-8 engine to melt away the rear rims and tires. The goal for this redneck engineered Miata was to do some serious burnouts, and boy did it ever at VIR’s Hyperfest.

Miata Burnout Rims and Tires

This monster V-8 NA-generation Miata was doing what it does best by ripping some serious burnouts and absolutely creating a smoke show with its rear rims and tires as it pressed up against a concrete barrier.

After losing himself in a cloud of smoke from the rims and tires, the driver decided to have another go of it, but things didn’t seem to be going according to plan. Suddenly, part of the drivetrain exploded under throttle, sending the clutch and/or flywheel through the windshield and starting a significant fire. Thankfully, driver was able to quickly escape unharmed as the track officials took their time arriving and extinguishing the flames.

While some things might seem cool, they can have disastrous results if you’re not careful, kids. Just don’t be stupid!
