Blazing a trail ahead.

Jeep unveiled quite an impressive batch of concept vehicles for the annual Easter Jeep Safari this year. While there were high-tech and retro models, one stood out with its vibrancy – the Jeep Luminator concept. This upgraded Wrangler on custom wheels has some innovative lighting that will hopefully make its way down to consumers in the future.

“It’s truly a labor of love for the Jeep team to develop exciting, capable concept vehicles each year for Moab and the Easter Jeep Safari,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “We look forward to the reaction and feedback from enthusiasts and our most loyal customers as these new Jeep concepts are put through their paces on the trails in Moab.”

Based on the Jeep Wrangler, the new Luminator concept paves its own way through the trails using its lights and custom wheels. Developed alongside the Automotive Lighting division of Magneti Marelli, the new Luminator features advanced lighting to not just brighten up the trails but communicate with others.

A pair of 7.0-inch projector bi-function headlamps stare ahead along with 100-mm LED fog lamps and grille-mounted turn signals found only on the Wrangler. Magnetic underbody rock lights illuminate the ground before it’s crushed by the custom wheels. Special LED taillights, a new A-pillar mounted spot lens, and overhead low-profile LED auxiliary spot lights behind the windshield brighten up the night.

Other innovative lighting solutions can be found throughout the Jeep Luminator. On the hood is a LED light bar that scans ahead of the SUV for wildlife and hazards. When one is detected an active spotlight with dynamic following illuminates the object. The rear of the Luminator concept features a center high-mount stop light that communicates to others behind the SUV. Four color LEDs display stop (red), 1-3 mph (amber), 3-25 mph (green) or white flood lighting.

A new roof-mounted solar panel helps to power all of these lights and sits beside a drone landing pad with illuminated drone. A case for an extra one of the custom wheels and tires is also featured at the rear with a Jeep Performance Parts cover.

Inside, the Jeep Luminator concept has an interactive touch display on the driver’s side rear window that’s linked to GPS and mobile internet.

Hopefully, many of these new technologies and lighting solutions trickle down into production vehicles relatively soon.
